Who could've possibly seen this coming... I LOVE a pathetic loser!!! I knew I wanted to watch this movie even before the trailer just because, as mentioned in the left sidebar, I love Zach Cregger! But then the trailer came out, giving us the first look at our protagonist, and he is just SUCH a lame-o (endearingly). He's not very assertive, and very obviously broke, judging by how fast he took the job that takes him to Raccoon City. He's also seemingly afraid to grow up, evident in the phone call with his pregnant girlfriend, Michelle. All these things make him such a breath of fresh air, especially considering how previous Resident Evil films had, essentially, superhuman protagonists who know how to use a gun. I love seeing a normal guy dropped in the middle of a hellish situation. All that being said, those traits also add to the tragedy of his character. He's normal, he's not Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, or the chick that Milla Jovovich played in those dogshit RE movies. He's a guy, scared of the fact that he's going to be a father, who took a job that dropped him in the middle of a nightmare to avoid having to have an adult conversation with his girlfriend and confronting that reality. He's kind, and genuinely trying to be helpful, risking life and limb to deliver a package that he doesn't find out is the secret to the cure to the mess that Umbrella has made. "A kid's heart," he believes he's carrying, saying this multiple times prior to learning that. He is a good person, and would've been a good father too.
