JACK THE RIPPER

Born on a rainy night in Liberia, "Raiden," or Jack, was adopted by Solidus Snake after the latter killed the former's parents. Raised as a child soldier by Solidus, he excelled and made a name for himself in the First Liberian Civil War, earning the monikers "Jack the Ripper" and the "White Devil."

When the war ended, he was placed in a relief center and brought to the United States by an NGO. Though he received counseling, he still struggled with his past, ultimately repressing it and suffering from nightmares about the atrocities he committed. Later on as an adult, he joined the military, where his skills earned him a spot in FOXHOUND, a black ops unit of the United States Army. During his time at FOXHOUND, he took part in the Big Shell incident, which culminated in the confrontation and defeat of his adoptive father.

However, this victory was bittersweet, and the confrontation uncovered memories of his troubled childhood. Unable to bear these memories, he left his girlfriend, Rose, and wandered aimlessly. He was eventually captured by the Patriots and experimented on. These experiments left him virtually unrecognizable, with exoskeletal enhancements reaching up to his lower jaw.

After escaping captivity, Raiden reappeared in South America in 2014 to assist Solid Snake during the Guns of the Patriots incident. While the GotP incident ended in Solid Snake and co.'s favor, the fighting left Raiden beaten and battered, landing a stay in the hospital, where his cybernetic enhancements were replaced with more "human" looking ones. While there, he also reunited with Rose and his estranged son, promising them that he's done running.

"Jack, I've been thinking for a long time. You've got a 'no trespassing sign' pasted on your heart."
